Common cures for various Verification Problems.
Please read this entire page before attempting any changes.
You may only need to follow some of the steps.
There are a few different things that can cause a computer to not verify
you username/password. Here are a few things to check before you decide to throw you
computer through the window.
If the computer comes back and asks you to retype the username and password, and you do
not receive any error messages, that can mean a few things. The first thing to do it check
the obvious problems. Make sure that your username & password are
spelled correctly, with lower case letters, no spaces and no punctuation. Also, using the
email address to log in with will cause a problem. If you are using the email to log in
with, reduce it so it is just your username.
The second thing that might be causing the problem is something may be wrong with your
account. Your account may have been changed, slept, not setup yet, etc. If you thing there
might be a billing question concerning the problem, or if you feel the info you are
supplying is correct, then give NetOne
Sales a call and see if the account is fully active. If you feel that it isn't the
account itself, go ahead and read on.
Another problem may be with NetOne's equipment. If part of the equipment fails, or a
connection to the internet is broken, it may make impossible for people to log in. You may
want to give NetOne a call to see
if this is true or not.
Something to look at is to see if the computer is set to automatically redial. To check
this out, go to Dial Up Networking, click on the Connections
Menu, and select Settings. Make sure that redial is checked, the time to retry is
set to 100, (you will never use all 100, it is just the highest number that can be put
this box) and the time to wait is set to 0 minutes and 0 seconds. If this is correct, hit
ok. Now, when you try to connect, it should give you a place to hit details to see why it
didn't connect. Most of the errors are self explanatory, so if you see one that you don't
understand, give Tech Support a
call.
Sometimes instead of verifying the username, it will show up with an error. It may say "...
Could not negotiate a compatible set of protocols.....".The actual message
may be longer, but this is the important part of it. If you get this message, you need to
remove and re-install the Dial Up Adapter & TCP/IP protocol from the Network icon in Control Panel.
Another item that will cause log in problems it what is called a Post-dialing Terminal
window. This isn't a major problem to fix. To fix this problem, go to Dial Up Networking and pull up the properties
of the NetOne icon. Once you get there, click on the configure button, then click on
the option tab. There you should see the check box that says "Bring up
terminal window after dialing". Uncheck that box, and hit ok until you get back to
the desk top.
Another problem could be with the modem itself. There could be two problems that are
caused by the modem. The first problem it it could be what is called a RPI modem.
The only time when you have to worry about an RPI modem is if your modem is a 14.4Kbps
modem. RPI was produced in to some models of 14.4 Kbps modems. If your modem isn't a 14.4
Kbps, you don't have to worry about it being an RPI. If it is a 14.4 Kbps modem, check the
list of known RPI modems to see if your modem is on the list. If
it is, you may want to think about investing into a newer modem.
If you don't have a known RPI modem, it could be that your modem is bad. To best way to
test this is to try a different modem. If you have a friend or relative that will be
willing to loan you another modem for a few days, go ahead and give it a try. Or if you
can find the right store, you can buy a new modem, try it, and take it back if it doesn't
help the problem.
If none of the above helped the problem, it sounds like a major problem in the computer.
You may need to have the OS reinstalled, or maybe a new piece of hardware. Contact a
computer manufacturer or a repair shop for more information.
