Here are a few of things to look at when you determine that it is a phone line problem.
- Make sure there are no line splitters between the computer and the phone jack on the
wall.
The less splices/connections that the phone line has to make between the phone jack and
the computer, the better the connection will be. Also, the less distance the phone line
has to travel, the better the connect rates.
- If you are using an Inferred Phone Jack, don't. Those screw up
computers trying to connect to the internet faster than anything.
- See if the weather is a factor. In most of Michigan, the phone lines in the ground are
old and worn out. When moisture get into the ground via rain, snow, melting snow, etc., it
soaks into the phone lines causing static and line noise, which cause computers to
disconnect/not connect at all. Also, if it is windy, and your phone line is in the air,
that could also cause the problem.
If you have determined that none of these factors contribute to the problem, then it is
time to call your phone company. |
