CHAPTER TWO: Life Happens
On Saturday, January 28,
1967, I married my best friend...thirty-nine, short years later I lost
him. We relocated to his hometown in northern Michigan and started
our own family later that year. We've been blessed with two sons,
and we currently have four, beautiful grandchildren. Initially,
it wasn't an easy move for me; however, I'd do it all over again!
It was difficult leaving all and everyone I knew behind, but it was the
first, real adventure of my lifetime, and it has sustained all these years.
I still enjoy adventures and pushing the envelope of my personal and
physical comfort zones. "The only easy day was yesterday."
When I felt confident my sons were old enough to survive the demands
of dual, parental careers, I entered both the law enforcement and military
communities...and their often-skewed demands on a family. It appears
my sons also inherited my mother's grit and determination. I retired
from the sheriff department in 2000 and the naval reserve in 2004.
