Alma Mater

Highlanders of Herricks High,
Singing out Her Praise.
For the years we've spent with thee,
And those glorious days.
To the silver and the blue,
We will e'er be true,
Every Highland Lad and Lassie,
Sing our love to you.

THE HIGHLANDS
(by E. Hutchings)

My heart's in the Highlands,
where e're I shall roam,
There to the Highlands my heart shall go home.

My heart's in the Highlands,
where e're I shall be.

I'll return to the Highlands -- my heart to make free.

Herricks High 35th Reunion:
A Highlander Remembers

By Louisa Calio - copyright 2001

Who could have guessed that all the while
there was a loving family waiting
to be rediscovered in the class of 65?
Who could have imagined this convivial collection of Souls
a rejoining of all those who dared to dream boldly
bring to life so many unique roles,
husband, wife, mother and father, analyst and doctor
just some of the stories that would unfold that magical night
when a special group of mates reconnected
to build bridges of love and light
across time
even those who had died,
remember the best in each other.

From troubadour to poet, lawyer, realtor and navy WAVE,
too many to name
came and converged
making lines of light that filled that November Night
with sizzling electricity, a heavenly sight
that turned into warmth and joy and tenderness
when we Crowned the Plaza with song, broke bread, shared stories,
danced, laughed, and remembered when and where and how and why.

Long past our adolescent woes, we discovered
how much we really liked each other.
Delighted to have found old friends, we made new ones as well
saw familiar and unfamiliar faces,
our class sponsor still intact; in fact, looking rather well
our prom King and Queen, still sweet and swell
the spirited Captain of our Football team
our kind committee who planned the grand affair
that fanned the flames of friendship over 35 years,
especially Ms. Peggy, who brought the Highlanders back
on that incredible web site:
Herricks Class of 65.

Let's give three cheers,
Hip, Hip Hurray, for the Class of 65
who dared to keep love and friendship alive.
Can't wait 'til we meet again
somewhere in 2005!

Fling Me Home!
